Nigel Turner joins retirement housebuilder as joint chief operating officer
McCarthy & Stone has named ex-Kier executive director Nigel Turner as joint chief operating officer, with responsibilities for the retirement home specialist鈥檚 building operation.
The role of COO 鈥 formerly held by current McCarthy & Stone chief executive John Tonkiss 鈥 is being split, with the firm also naming former Automobile Association chief executive Mike Lloyd as chief operating officer overseeing customer-facing services.
Turner left Kier in August this year after 21 years at the firm following the appointment of Claudio Veritiero as the contractor鈥檚 chief operating officer. He led the group鈥檚 property and development services division and had operational responsibility for a team of more than 7,000 staff.
McCarthy & Stone said Mike Lloyd would be responsible for the group鈥檚 management services operations, as well as sales, marketing and resales.
Both men will take up their new jobs on 1 January 2019.
John Tonkiss said: 鈥淲e are delighted to announce these two senior appointments to the board.
鈥淣igel and Mike鈥檚 experience will significantly strengthen our management team and ensure we align our new strategy with operational execution and excellence.鈥
The group announced the new executives鈥 positions less than a month after it reported a 37% fall in pre-tax profit to 拢58m.
Announcing its full year results in November, McCarthy & Stone said that profits were lower due to build cost increases, the increased use of part鈥慹xchange by homebuyers, additional marketing activity and increased operating costs.
In September the firm had announced a new business transformation strategy to focus on increasing return on capital employed, margins and cash generation.
