Seven contractors also shortlisted for two jobs working under new legacy delivery partner
Construction management specialist Mace has been confirmed as the delivery partner for the 拢315m project to transform the Olympic Park after the 2012 games in preparation for redevelopment.
The firm鈥檚 appointment, predicted in March by 好色先生TV, was confirmed today by the Olympic Park Legacy Company. It said Mace will initially manage two tier one contractors, who will be appointed before Christmas, to carry out work in the north and south of the park.
Seven firms have been shortlisted for the two contracting jobs. The shortlist for the south park is: Balfour Beatty Group; BAM Nuttall; Lend Lease Construction; VolkerFitzpatrick and Skanska Construction UK.
The shortlist for the north park is: Balfour Beatty Group; BAM Nuttall; Carillion Construction; Lend Lease Construction and Skanska Construction UK.
Mace will also oversee existing transformation contracts for park venues, such as the Aquatic Centre, which will have its temporary seating removed after the games.
The move follows the OPLC being given control of the so-called 鈥渓egacy transformation鈥 of the park, which was originally under the remit of the Olympic Delivery Authority. The legacy transformation includes all the work to remove temporary facilities and reduce facilities like bridges to their post games mode. It does not, however, include the further housing and commercial developments planned for the park over the next 20 years.
Mace is already part of the CLM team which is the delivery partner for the ODA鈥檚 拢9.3bn Olympic construction programme.
Colin Naish, executive director of infrastructure at the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said: 鈥淏y taking on the transformation work, the Olympic Park Legacy Company can be more efficient and effective in our plans to re-open the Park after the Games and, by working closely with Mace, ensure the transformation works support our long term vision of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.鈥
Mark Reynolds, deputy chief executive of Mace, said: 鈥淲e are thrilled to be one of the few companies to have been involved with the regeneration of the Olympic Park from inception, with the original master-planning, through delivery of London 2012 Olympic and Paralypmic Games with CLM and now onto delivering the legacy.鈥
