Work to repair corroded electrical system at Wembley stadium has been carried out over the past year.
The electrical system at Wembley stadium has had to be repaired after water leaks created fears of an explosion in the stadium.
It emerged today that additional work has been carried out on the electrical system after water leaked into copper electrical conductors, corroding the system. This created the fear of an explosion if electrical current passed through the conductors. Though site sources have insisted that sensitive protection would have tripped and prevented an explosion from occurring even if live current was passing through the conductors.
It is understood that replacement works have been carried out in a two-week period over the past year.
Multiplex says it does not expect the work to impact on the timetable for completion of the stadium, which is already four months behind its original schedule. Multiplex says it is entitled to have until September to finish the project as a result of alleged design changes made by client Wembley National Stadium Limited.
