Expanded pips four rivals to concrete work at UAL building
Laing O鈥橰ourke鈥檚 concrete arm Expanded has won a major role at the 拢1bn Stratford Waterfront development in east London.
The firm beat four others to the structural frame and roof works contract at the University of the Arts London鈥檚 new London College of Fashion.
Expanded trumped McGee, Careys, Byrne Bros and Kilnbridge to the 拢36m deal.
It will be responsible for the cores, external and internal public lift cores, structural frame, roofs and hub terraces at the Allies and Morrison-designed building.
It will also build the plant rooms along with staircases and ramps.

London Legacy Development Corporation is building the East Bank scheme under a CM deal and has already appointed Mace to project manage the work.
Careys is already working on the Stratford Waterfront project, having secured the 拢16m enabling works contract for the whole of the scheme last November.
The contractor, which was the concrete firm on the 22 Bishopsgate tower in the City of London, started onsite in the same month while specialist Blu-3 has been carrying out demolition work.
UAL鈥檚 existing London College of Fashion site is at John Prince鈥檚 Street just off Oxford Street and will move in once East Bank is finished in 2022.
