Architect鈥檚 design uses wind to cool apartments
Architect Grimshaw has submitted a planning application for a 90-storey tower in Parramatta, Australia.
The scheme will contain 700 residential apartments and 150 hotel rooms, bars, restaurants and retail space. There will also be a viewing deck across the top two floors.
The scheme also includes work to create a public square at the base of the tower.
The design of the tower twists to maximise access to sunlight and to help use prevailing wind to cool the apartments in the tower.
Andrew Cortese, partner at Grimshaw, said the project was a 鈥渞are opportunity to invest in and construct a viable and vital piece of city-making鈥.
He added: 鈥淲e hope that the tower will be recognised as a landmark through its balanced achievement of programmatic and environmental innovations, its rationality and buildability, and its uniquely sculptural form.鈥
