Scheme one of six pledged by government last year

A contract notice for a 拢500m scheme to redevelop the Leeds General Infirmary is due to be published a week today.

In a Prior Information Notice, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said the contract notice would appear on 12 October for contractors and consultants wanting to work on the scheme at the hospital, better known as the LGI.

The LGI has been at its current city centre site for over 150 years and the trust鈥檚 plans will include a new adult hospital and a major site for the Leeds Children鈥檚 Hospital.

The PIN added: 鈥淭he Trust is seeking innovative solutions to assist the Trust in responding to the digital hospital and sustainability/net zero carbon agendas.

鈥淭he Trust intends to hold a virtual open day for the project, to brief the market and to provide an opportunity for the market to ask questions on the Project and the Trust鈥檚 approach. The procurement of the professional team is expected to commence imminently.鈥

The scheme is one of six prime minister Boris Johnson said he would spend 拢2.7bn on under an initiative called the Health Infrastructure Plan.

At last autumn鈥檚 Tory party conference, health secretary Matt Hancock said the six schemes would all be completed by 2025.

Projects set to share in the 拢2.7bn windfall include Barts Health NHS Trust in north-east London, which has been given funding to build a new Whipps Cross University Hospital, while Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust will build a new St Helier Hospital in the capital鈥檚 south-west.

Others include the full upgrade of Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust鈥檚 plans for the Leicester General and Leicester Royal sites, as well as the construction of a new Watford General hospital.
