500 homes set to be built at City fringe site

Bishopsgate Goodsyard will have twice the number of homes as previously planned under new proposals revealed by joint venture developers Ballymore and Hammerson.

The scheme will provide a 10 acre mixed-use urban quarter in Shoreditch, on the City fringe, if it receives planning permission.

But planners at Hackney council had demanded the scheme contain more homes.

An original PLP-designed scheme had envisaged more than 1,400 residential units on the site.

Now the JV has agreed to provide 500 homes 鈥 250 more than proposed in its November planning application 鈥 of which 35% will be affordable.

Two high-rise residential towers were scrapped some time ago with the tallest residential building in the PLP scheme, a 46-storey tower, now shrunk to a 29-storey office block and designed by Eric Parry.

The developers have launched a second public exhibition on the updated proposals (pictured).

They are working with architects including Buckley Gray Yeoman and master planner FaulknerBrowns Architects.
