Worries over cladding prompted client Network Rail to order remedial action
Costain was asked by Network Rail three months ago to take over the cladding work at London Bridge station because of worries about the quality of Lakesmere鈥檚 work.
Network Rail confirmed that its main contractor on the 拢400m revamp, which is due to open early next spring after five years, took over the cladding part of the scheme in August.
Work is continuing and a spokesperson for Network Rail said: 鈥淪ome of the cladding that was fitted by Lakesmere at London Bridge station has been removed and we are currently in the process of re-installing it.
鈥淭his was due to a problem with how the cladding had been installed and longer term concerns over its durability to last the 25 year asset life.鈥�
Lakesmere went down last week with administrator Deloitte immediately making 109 people 鈥� close to half its staff 鈥� redundant.
Its 拢8m contract at London Bridge also included supplying and installing glass reinforced concrete panels for the arches within the station鈥檚 Western Arcade.
