Eight firms in the frame for Birmingham work
Eight contractors including Balfour Beatty, Amey and Tarmac-owned Alun Griffiths are all in the running for a series of major infrastructure projects needed for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Joining the three in the hunt for the work are Fitzgerald Contractors, McPhillips, Dawnus Construction, Jackson Civil Engineering Group and Volker Fitzpatrick.
The city council said it would be using contractors from its Highways and Infrastructure Works Framework Agreement to carry out the works.
The council said the 鈥減re-selection process would be undertaken with the eight 鈥楲ot 4鈥� Framework Agreement Contractors to shortlist a maximum of two or three contractors鈥� for each project.
Jobs up for grabs include improvements to local roads as well as work on a bus rapid transit known as Sprint, which will see designated and separated bus lanes created.
Rail improvements, including the redevelopment of the Perry Barr station (pictured), are also expected to be carried out.
The athletes鈥� village will be built in the Perry Barr area of the city while the main stadium, the existing Alexander Stadium which is due to be upgraded, is also in Perry Bar.
