Town council commits extra cash to Glass Works scheme

Barnsley鈥檚 town council has committed an extra 拢70m to the revamp of its town centre.

The retail-led scheme, known as the Glass Works, is being developed by Queensberry.

It is located on a 3.8 hectare site around the town鈥檚 Cheapside street and will provide 590,000ft虏 of retail and leisure uses, including shops, restaurants, a multiplex cinema and a bowling alley.

It will also provide a new home for Barnsley鈥檚 historic markets, a central library and public realm.

The cash injection takes the council鈥檚 total investment in the scheme to 拢120m.

Alongside the funding announcement, development manager Queensberry also revealed the first occupiers would be Cineworld and Superbowl UK.
