Contractors to deliver upgrade to M8, M73 and M74 over the next four years
A joint venture between contractors Amey and Lagan has been awarded the contract to deliver a 拢415m package of road works in Scotland.
The firms saw off competition from a consortium of Balfour Beatty, Galliford Try and Carillion to clinch the deal.
The bundle of work entails upgrading the A8; widening the M8, M73 and M74; and improving the Raith interchange.
Work on site is expected to start later this year and complete in spring 2017.
Transport minister Keith Brown said the project would 鈥渄irectly support the hard-pressed construction industry鈥.
He added: 鈥淭he M74 Completion generated 900 construction jobs and we expect this project to be on a similar scale. There will also be opportunities for on the job training for apprentices and local employment.鈥
