Just two years ago when the country was in the grip of the pandemic and it looked as if mass redundancies would hit construction, the government backed an intiative to protect jobs. It was called the Construction Talent Retention Scheme.
Of course, we know now that those fears were not realised because the sector managed to keep operating. Instead companies are faced with a different challenge as job vacancies have reached record numbers, and in response the Construction Talent Retention Scheme鈥檚 purpose has switched to helping employers recruit and retain the skills as feel the pressure of mounting recruitment costs.
And a year ago, the scheme expanded to launch Talentview Construction, an online platform for individuals looking for a first job, an apprenticeship or a traineeship.

Liz Male is communications lead for both schemes, and in this short video clip from a earlier this month she talks about the benefits and why significant numbers of employers and employees have registered on these jobs boards.
She also shares details about an upcoming social media campaign that will be providing a platform for young people to become online influencers, spreading a positive message about construction as a career to their peers.

We know the construction industry has no shortage of suggestions for tackling the skills crisis.
