In the second of our two-part feature on how modern methods of construction could improve efficiency, Thomas Lane looks at how systems and processes can help drive change
Platform systems aim to address the challenges of a lack of standardisation and interoperability between different MMC systems which add complexity, cost and adds risk as clients are reliant on just one supplier.
In essence a platform is a standardised chassis – in other words, a frame to which other components can be attached. These other components allow for a degree of customisation. They are widely used in manufacturing – for example, in the car industry. Volkswagen Group spent billions developing its MQB platform, which is now on its second iteration and used for a wide range of smaller models across its four brands.
