Westminster Academy victory could lose bookies thousands, says Paddy Power
The bookies are dreading an Allford Hall Monaghan Morris victory in this weekend鈥檚 Stirling Prize, with Paddy Power predicting a "four figure loser鈥 if Westminster Academy takes the gong.
The Irish bookmaker slashed its odds on AHMM from 12/1 to 4/1 in recent weeks, and a spokesperson said a win for the firm could lose them thousands of pounds.
He said: 鈥淭he big mover in the market was the Westminster Academy, cut from an opening 12/1 and bet at various prices down to its closing price of 4/1. It would also be a four figure loser for us, so the result we are fearing.鈥
However, Denton Corker Marshall鈥檚 Civil Justice Centre remains Paddy Power鈥檚 10/11 favourite. William Hill鈥檚 odds remained unchanged, with AHMM the 3/1 favourite, DCM the second on 7/2 and Zaha Hadid鈥檚 Nordpark a 4/1 chance.
The closing odds from both firms were:
Paddy Power
- 10/11 Manchester Civil Justice Centre
- 4/1 Westminster Academy at the Naim Dangoor Centre
- 9/2 Nord Park Cable Railway
- 5/1 Accordia
- 10/1 Royal Festival Hall
- 12/1 Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena Station
William Hill
- 3/1 Westminster Academy at the Naim Dangoor Centre
- 7/2 Manchester Civil Justice Centre
- 4/1 Nord Park Cable Railway
- 9/2 Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena Station
- 5/1 Royal Festival Hall
- 5/1 Accordia
Both firms have now finished taking bets on this year鈥檚 prize. The winner will be announced at a dinner in Liverpool on Saturday evening hosted by the RIBA.
