Housing agency extends Dixon's contract for further two years or until merger with English Partnerships is complete

Peter Dixon has ended speculation about his future at the Housing Corporation by pledging to remain chairman for another two years.

Dixon鈥檚 contract was due to expire in September and there was speculation that he would leave the organisation following chief executive Jon Rouse鈥檚 departure earlier this year.

Dixon will stay on as the chairman of the Housing Corporation and see through its merger with English Partnerships as it becomes Communities England.

The Housing Corporation said that the two-year extension to the contract from 1 October 2007 could be shorter if the merger completed before 2009.

The Housing Corporation also announced the reappointments of Chris Holmes, Kevin Lavery and Peter Rogers to its board. These appointments will also run from 1 October and will end when the new homes agency is launched.

Communities minister, Baroness Andrews, said: 鈥淚 am very pleased that Peter Dixon has agreed to remain at the helm of the Housing Corporation in the run up to the new homes agency. The continuity that this allows will be a great asset."

鈥淚t will also be enormously beneficial to retain the services of Sir Duncan Michael, Peter Rogers, Chris Holmes and Kevin Lavery at this crucial period for the future of social housing. I am also delighted that, as the new acting chief executive, Steve Douglas will be able to contribute to both boards at this critical time.鈥
