Contractor beats five firms to 拢22m job
Kier has been chosen to build the new home of the University of Edinburgh鈥檚 school of engineering.
The contractor beat five other firms to land the 拢22m deal, according to a contract notice published to the Official Journal.
The university said 30% of the contract award was based on quality criteria while 70% was based on price.
The engineering Module 1 building (pictured) is part of the masterplan for the development of the school of engineering estate that is located on the Kings 好色先生TVs campus.
This building is part of the long-term vision and is the first of a cluster of several buildings for the school of engineering.
The five-storey building is set to provide 6,500m2 of internal floor area. Around 85% will be office space for post-graduate and post-doctorate research assistants, meeting rooms, social and teaching space, while around 15% will be allocated to research and specialist teaching labs.
The university has a target occupation date of June 2022, though the scheme, which was due to start on site earlier this year, could be facing additional delays continuing the ongoing ban on all but essential construction work in Scotland in the face of the covid-19 pandemic.
The design team, lead by BDP, and quantity surveyor, Currie & Brown, have already been appointed, while a planning application has already been submitted to Edinburgh council.
