NPORS resigns from the Construction Plant Operators Scheme over new rules on conflict of interest

The Construction Plant Operators Scheme, the plant sector鈥檚 most widely recognised competency card scheme, has revealed that one of its founding bodies has resigned from the scheme.

Representatives of the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) have resigned from the CPCS over new rules on conflict of interest.

NPORS was one of the founder members of the scheme in 2003, and was responsible for offering the NVQ-based qualification necessary to obtain a CSCS card.

Trevor Gamble, chairman of CPCS, said: 鈥淣PORS has contributed a great deal to the CPCS, helping establish it as the standard for plant operators. However, for the management committee to operate in the best interests of the plant sector, it is crucial that members avoid the possibility of conflicts of interest arising - and for that reason I respect NPORS鈥� decision to withdraw.鈥�

The Major Contractors Group, the T&G union and the Construction Plant-hire Association have reiterated their support for the scheme following NPORS鈥� resignation.
