Police launch arson investigation after fire damages Grade II-listed structure

Police have launched an arson investigation into a blaze that ripped through Eastbourne Pier last week that destroyed about a third of the historic structure.

Sussex Police this week said the force had received information suggesting the fire was started by someone 鈥渆ither deliberately or accidently鈥�.

At its height, up to 80 firefighters tackled the blaze on the 144-year-old Grade II-listed pier.

Last week, David Cameron and George Osborne visited the site and pledged 拢2m of government money to help restore it.
