Wates boss wins first ever CEO’s CEO of the year, plus full list of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Awards winners
Andrew Davies was crowned winner of the first ever CEOs’ CEO of the Year gong at the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Awards.
The Wates chief executive was recognised by his peers for his contribution to the construction industry, among a host of winners at construction’s biggest celebration of the year.
Hosted by Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt, the ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London’s Mayfair this evening was attended by 1,400 of the great and good of the industry.
Since joining Wates from BAE Systems in 2014, Davies has embarked on an ambitious plan to double the family-owned contractor’s turnover to £2bn, and is well on the way to achieving this after acquiring the bulk of rival Shepherd’s construction business.
The judges said Davies has placed a commitment to social value at the heart of Wates’ business, and the company was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for sustainable development in April.
Sadie Morgan, founder of architecture practice dRMM and chair of the HS2 design panel, was named ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Magazine personality of the year.
Tamsin Tweddell, senior partner at Max Fordham, took ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Magazine’s woman of the year award, while Nora Taylor of Arcadis was highly commended in the same category by the judges.
Project of the year was scooped by Mace’s work on Birmingham New Street train station, in partnership with Network Rail and Atkins.
