Simons Construction
A strong financial performance and a commitment to partnering led to an impressive 1999 for Simons Construction. Turnover rose 23.5% to £141.4m and operating profit was up 17% to £2.1m. About 40% of the firm's work is partnered, and the £12.3m Ambient Distribution Centre project for Asda in Chepstow was just one example. It took just 30 weeks to complete.
Overbury
A finalist last year, fit-out specialist Overbury – part of Morgan Sindall Group – has continued its strong growth, with turnover up 15% to £125m and operating profit jumping 43% to £6.12m. A key project for the firm last year was its refurbishment of the seven-floor office of telecoms giant MCI WorldCom in Fetter Lane, London.
Try Construction
Another good financial performer – turnover up 11% to £106.2m, operating profit up 27% to £1.4m in 1999 – Try Construction has taken advantage of partnering and repeat business for clients such as The Grosvenor Estate and Slough Estates. Feedback from clients has led to a customer-care programme being introduced by the firm. Its best-practice project was the £14m British Midland Airways Flight Crew Training Centre, at Stockley Close near Heathrow.
The partnering philosophy and integrity runs right through the heart of the business
Good commercial success in a tough competitive market
