League table methodology

The league tables are compiled using Barbour ABI data on contracts awarded and a survey of over 100 of the largest contractors. The project values for architect and QS league tables is based on Barbour ABI contract data. The figures include contracts worth 拢100k or more, and all work awarded by negotiation or competitive tender unless stated.

Barbour ABI鈥檚 new methodology

From this month, Barbour ABI has changed its methodology for compiling Barometer to bring it more closely in line with the industry data it compiles for the Office of National Statistics. This means the cumulative annual leagues for top contractors will restart from this month. The tables are compiled using a survey of over 100 of the largest contractors, as well as data from the Barbour ABI database of contracts awarded that calendar month. The Top Contractors tables include contracts worth 拢100k or more and tendered and negotiated contracts, but exclude frameworks and masterplans. Companies are ranked by total value of contracts they have won during the month. The Architects and QS tables are based on contract data as above, and ranked by projects worked upon on which a contractor has been appointed, as Barbour ABI considers this the best indicator of a scheme going ahead. From this month we will also publish a top housing developer table (below), provided by Barbour ABI. This includes developer -led residential schemes with a start date but not speculative applications.
