The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) has warned the government that key offshore wind farms could be scrapped due to a 拢2bn funding gap, according to the Sunday Times.

BWEA has said that major schemes which have planning approval may not be built unless the government intervenes.

The wind industry body wrote to the government last week warning that the impact of the credit crunch could threaten such schemes and that the government had to provide 鈥渜uick solutions to today鈥檚 problems.鈥

Nine schemes, including the 拢3bn London Array in the Thames estuary and Npower's 拢2.2bn Gwint y Mor farm off the Welsh coast, have planning permission but have not started construction.
